  • Dr Henri Atlas

    Dr. Henri Atlas

Dr. Henri Atlas received his medical degree in Belgium at the University of Louvain in 1961. An associate of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1967, he began his career at Sacred Heart Hospital of Montreal in 1970. He grew the general surgery services and established the first Unit of Traumatology in Quebec in 1976.

Always on the lookout for technology, he was one of the first to get on board with laparoscopic surgery in the 1990s. With that in mind he has, in recent years, spent most of his time in bariatric surgery by laparoscopy.

  • Dr Ronald Denis

    Dr. Ronald Denis

Dr. Ronald Denis, a graduate of the University of Montreal in 1975, joined Sacred Heart Hospital of Montreal in 1984 after an impressive Traumatology Fellowship in Detroit. He then joined Dr. Atlas' team and was involved in the implementation of laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Denis has been the Head of the Department of Surgery since 1997 and has achieved important progress for the Department, in traumatology and for other disciplines. In 2003, Dr. Denis was a key figure in obtaining the Da Vinci surgical robot for the hospital. It was the first in Quebec and one of the few in Canada. Through the acquisition of the Da Vinci robot, the number of people undergoing bariatric surgery has grown tremendously because its level of accuracy goes beyond what is attainable in conventional laparoscopy.
